USDF Announces Dates for Two 2008 USDF Sport Horse Seminars

The United States Dressage Federation announced the dates for two USDF Sport Horse Seminars during 2008. The first seminar will be held July 26-27, 2008 in Fulshear, TX, with Hilda Gurney and sponsored by the Houston Dressage Society. The second seminar will be held October 18-19, 2008 in Colora, MD, with Melissa Creswick and sponsored by Hilltop Farm, Inc. Attendees of these seminars can earn up to four USDF University Program credits.

USDF Sport Horse Seminars are two-day programs designed to educate breeders, riders, trainers and potential sport horse owners about the qualities desired in a sport horse and how to rate these qualities. Other topics covered are the basics of preparing horses to be shown in-hand and competition rules and procedures. Additionally, these seminars serve as prerequisites for individuals applying to become USEF-licensed dressage/sport horse breeding judges.

For more information on USDF Sport Horse Seminars visit the USDF Web site or contact the USDF office. Or, for detailed information about these specific seminars, contact the event organizer using the contact information found on the USDF Calendar or by visiting the Houston Dressage Society or the Hilltop Farm, Inc. web sites, respectively.

New Draft and Survey for USEF Dressage Performance Standards Proposal Now Available

SEDA members: This is a very important issue and involves a huge change in the way people will be allowed to participate in USDF/USEF-licensed dressage shows. Please read it carefully, and make sure you fill out the survey at the end. Your feedback is essential! There is an area at the end of the survey for any comments you have about the proposed standards.

The USEF Dressage Committee has released a new draft of the Performance Standards Proposal for review and feedback from United States Dressage Federation (USDF) and USEF members. This proposal would establish a qualification process for competing at fourth level and above at USEF-licensed dressage competitions beginning with the 2011 competition year.

The committee invites USEF and USDF members to review the new draft, and then log in through the USEF website to fill out an online survey. This survey will be used to collect member feedback and comments, which will be reviewed by the committee members at their July 1–2, 2008, meeting.

Please visit this link for more information, and click on “Dressage Performance Standards Proposal Information.”

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO SEDA AWARDS PROGRAM, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

The SEDA Board of Directors has voted to approve the following changes to the SEDA Awards Program, effective immediately. For any additional information, please see the complete Awards Program Guidelines.

Schooling Dressage
Eligibility for Awards for Schooling Dressage will be determined based on the number of tests ridden and the number of different judges for whom those tests are ridden. Introductory through Fourth Level will require four (4) tests and two (2) different judges. FEI and Freestyle will require two (2) tests and two (2) different judges. All submitted scores will count regardless of how many tests are ridden at a given show or on a given day.

Awards will be based on the highest median score at the end of the year. Year-end placing for schooling dressage will be based upon median scores. All eligible scores will be noted, and the median score (the score in the middle, with exactly half as many scores lower and half as many scores higher than it) of the top 80% of all scores (if more than the minimum required at each level) will be the score used to determine year-end awards, with the highest median score at the Level winning the Championship.

Scoring: Schooling Dressage points will no longer be automatically tabulated by the Schooling Awards Chair. You must submit to the Schooling Dressage Awards Chair all tests that you wish to have included in your year-end standing. No scores will be automatically included, and all scores must be received by the awards chair no later than 14 days after the last day of the weekend on which the show in question was held. Scores should be submitted by sending a copy of the front of the test (showing the name and date of the horse show, the name of the judge, the test, the competitor, the points and the percentage score) to Vickie Schiefelbein. If the front of the test does not include all of the information required, please submit a copy of the entire test. On the first scores you submit, please make sure to indicate whether you are in Jr/YR, Adult Amateur, or Open division. A card or e-mail will be sent to acknowledge receipt of your scores. Please provide a valid e-mail address when submitting your scores if you would like electronic notification. If you do not receive notification within three weeks of mailing in your scores, please contact the Schooling Dressage Awards Chair.
