USEA Ride Share Test Program

The long-awaited USEA Ride Share Program is officially here! We all know that gas prices are at an all-time high, and trailering long distances to events or other activities doesn’t sound very enticing. In order to help our members save money, the USEA has launched a “Ride Share” system.

The format is similar to booking a flight. Just do the following:

  • Choose whether you can Share a Ride or you Need a Ride.
  • Enter your name and email address - your email address remains private and secure.
  • Pick the departure date or dates. You can select a range of dates if you are not certain exactly when you will leave.
  • “One-way” trips are an option (for example, you’re selling a horse, or dropping a horse off in Aiken for the winter. You would only need a “one-way” ticket). You can add number of passengers and also add comments about your horse (is your horse a stallion, first-time traveler, extra-wide, etc.).
  • Enter the zip codes for where you will depart and arrive.
  • For “round trips” – Pick the return date (or dates), and then add the number of passengers and comment.
  • Whether you are looking for a ride or sharing a ride, just review the listings for more information and send a request for contact.

This helpful program is free, open to anyone (not just USEA members), and can be used for any sort of trip (whether it be to a lesson, clinic, horse trials, etc.).

NOTE: This new system is in the “testing” stage, so please let us know how you like it, and if you have any suggestions on improvement. Please send comments to webmaster@useventing.com.

The USEF and USEA are also currently in the process of developing the rules for a 'red card system' to penalize dangerous riding.

These rule changes reflect action items in a letter from USEF President David O'Connor and USEA President Kevin Baumgardner written on April 29, 2008. A copy of that letter can be viewed at: http://www.usef.org/_IFrames/newsdisplay/viewpr.aspx?id=3054.

The USEF and the USEA are constantly committed to the safety and welfare of riders, horses and the sport of Eventing. Making the sport safer is a constantly evolving process. In the April 29th letter, the USEF and USEA also announced a joint Safety Summit to be held on June 7-8 in Lexington, KY.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO SEDA AWARDS PROGRAM, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

The SEDA Board of Directors has voted to approve the following changes to the SEDA Awards Program, effective immediately. For any additional information, please see the complete Awards Program Guidelines.

Schooling Dressage
Eligibility for Awards for Schooling Dressage will be determined based on the number of tests ridden and the number of different judges for whom those tests are ridden. Introductory through Fourth Level will require four (4) tests and two (2) different judges from at least two (2) different shows. FEI and Freestyle will require two (2) tests and two (2) different judges from at least two (2) different shows. All submitted scores will count regardless of how many tests are ridden at a given show or on a given day.

Awards will be based on the highest median score at the end of the year. Year-end placing for schooling dressage will be based upon median scores. All eligible scores will be noted, and the median score (the score in the middle, with exactly half as many scores lower and half as many scores higher than it) of the top 80% of all scores (if more than the minimum required at each level) will be the score used to determine year-end awards, with the highest median score at the Level winning the Championship.

Scoring: Schooling Dressage points will no longer be automatically tabulated by the Schooling Awards Chair. You must submit to the Schooling Dressage Awards Chair all tests that you wish to have included in your year-end standing. No scores will be automatically included, and all scores must be received by the awards chair no later than 14 days after the last day of the weekend on which the show in question was held. Scores should be submitted by sending a copy of the front of the test (showing the name and date of the horse show, the name of the judge, the test, the competitor, the points and the percentage score) to Vickie Schiefelbein. If the front of the test does not include all of the information required, please submit a copy of the entire test. On the first scores you submit, please make sure to indicate whether you are in Jr/YR, Adult Amateur, or Open division. A card or e-mail will be sent to acknowledge receipt of your scores. Please provide a valid e-mail address when submitting your scores if you would like electronic notification. If you do not receive notification within three weeks of mailing in your scores, please contact the Schooling Dressage Awards Chair.

SEDA Eventing Update

Cross Country Schooling Day Rules — Don’t Forget!!

  • Always wear your safety-approved helmet and protector vest.
  • For every person mounted and jumping in the field, there must be one adult on the ground. This is a SEDA rule and is for everyone’s safety!
  • Always pay close attention to other riders in the field. It is usually a good idea to call attention (vocally) to the jumps you are jumping to alert others. No crashes!
